The Natural and Organic Farmers' Market is an established initiative of the Stellenbosch Waldorf School, situated in the classic wine lands of the Cape. Its primary purpose is to generate funds by providing a vehicle for the promotion and selling of organic and natural produce and wares.

This includes supporting not only certified producers, but also those who demonstrate a clear intention to become certified organic producers or follow a wholesome, natural ethic in their practices. Supporting emerging producers is of primary importance, as is fostering a community of interested and informed people.

In addition to being a self-funding organism, the Natural and Organic Farmers' Market also funds bursaries for children to be able to derive the benefits of a Waldorf School education. So, come and support this worthy cause that helps to grow a healthy school, while enjoying one of Marianne's legendary breakfasts under the trees.

Universiteit Stellenbosch Woordfees 2012
Don’t miss the Stellenbosch Woordfees for anything in the world!!!

Date: 2-11 March 2012
Bookings: Computicket

The 13th Wordfest, to be held this year from March 2 to 11, was launched on Monday (January 16, 2012) with a gala event at the Lourensford Wine Estate.

The Stellenbosch University Woordfees (Wordfest) will paint Stellenbosch green this year! The theme for this year is ‘Green’ and will play on not only a greater environmental awareness but also on the word that stays green for all times.

To support the sustainability theme of this year’s Woordfees, the Uitkyk estate near Stellenbosch will host a 6 km and 12 km run called Velddraf met Woorde: ek skop stof op in my taal. Woordfees, under the auspices of the University of Stellenbosch, takes place from March 2 to 11.

The two events take place on March 10. Participants will be running in support of the sustainability of both the environment and Afrikaans language. Every participant will run with a unique Afrikaans word instead of a number to create awareness of the words that make the Afrikaans language so unique. Runners will also have an opportunity after their run to sponsor words at R100 each as part of the Woordeboek vir die Afrikaanse Taal Borg ’n Woord campaign.

Uitkyk will offer delicious “green” gourmet picnic baskets for two at R300, including a bottle of wine and a picnic blanket, to be booked 24 hours in advance. Guests may also bring their own picnic items including blankets and chairs. Cheese platters for four will be available at R120 and can be ordered on arrival. Coffee, sandwiches and muffins will be available for sale during registration at 7:30.

The entry fee for the 6 km run is R30 per person and for the 12 km run, R60. Contact Marlise Klopper on 082 955 2655 to enter or if you need further information. To book picnic baskets, contact Bianca Brand or Carlin van Graan on 021 884 4416. Specify that you’re ordering a “green” picnic basket.

On March 9 a Woord-en-Wyn-kostafel will be held on the estate. There is room for only 12 guests at the table at which a three-course lunch will be served, paired with some of the estate’s wines. Also in attendance will be Uitkyk winemaker Estelle Lourens and businessman Jannie Mouton, founder and chairman of the PSG group whose biography, En toe fire hulle my, was published at the end of last year.
